Play Sport delivers high quality multi-skill sports coaching activities.
Multi skills is a key area of work locally and nationally. Based on the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) sporting profile, the Play Sport project develops physical literacy skills in young people, working on the key skills of:
- Agility
- Balance
- Coordination
or: A,B,Cs - these are the key skills that underpin all sports
Developing these fundamental skills improves a young person’s chances of reaching their personal potential in their chosen sports, giving them a positive first experience in sport, which is good fun and will encourage lifelong participation.
Experienced coaches deliver hourly sessions in a range of community settings. These include:
- School PE lessons
- After school clubs
- Voluntary sports clubs
- Village halls
- Pre school settings
- Leisure centres
- Further education colleges
- Special needs schools and clubs
Many children are keen on continuing to play sport after previously finding PE difficult. We have also identified some young athletes showing promising talent.
In 2008 2 Play Sport coaches won awards in the Children’s Coaching category at the national Sports Coach UK of the Year event.
How it works
During a block of coaching the tailor-made approach allows coaches to engage with the young people in sessions and gives sports teachers, leaders and coaches the confidence to deliver their own sessions.
We also offer practical workshops for teachers, coaches and young leaders.
We can deliver courses based on any aspects of multi skills training a group may require.
The project has produced 2 CD ROM resources as well as festival resource packs for
Key Stages 1 and 2.
Compiled as an introduction to basic Multi-Skill activities it is designed to assist teachers and coaches with their planning.
The resource is an ideal support to teachers and coaches who have already attended FUNdamentals and Multi-Skills training.
The CD-ROMs features practical examples of Multi-Skills activities featuring participants aged between 8-11 years; they have had little or no specific multi-skills coaching.
The CD-ROM also features participants with a disability and demonstrates inclusive adapted versions of some activities.
